SEEJ-AFRICA: Kenya Wildlife Service for charging purposes typically sets the value of ivory at ksh 100,000 ($1000) per kilo so this seizure is probably about 14 kilogrammes.  The location of the arrest was just south of Mount Kenya National Park.

July 21st, 2020: Two men were arrested with six pieces of elephant tusks with an estimated worth of  Ksh 1.4 million on Tuesday evening in Kutus, Kirinyaga county.
 
Confirming the arrest, Gichugu Sub-county Police commander Anthony Mbogo said the suspects were trailed by the Kenya Wildlife Service Rangers before they were arrested. The two suspects are being held at Kianyaga Police and will be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
 
‘The arrest of the two suspects with elephant tusks means the country is losing more elephants and residents living near Mt. Kenya forest should give information to police officers’. Mbogo said the two suspects  will be arraigned at the Gichugu Law Courts on Wednesday.
