On June 15th, 2024, 3 policemen and another were arrested in Kitengela while transporting 29 kg of ivory. The vehicle had been tracked from Eldoret. One of the officers was from the Presidential Escort Unit. That matter is still before the Kahawa courts and a hearing has yet to take place.
On January 23rd, 2025, in the mid-afternoon, while acting on a tip off, KWS officers arrested a male and a female transporting 8 pieces of ivory weighing 49 kgs. They were travelling in a Nissan Note along Mombasa Road in the Kyumbi area (Machakos) about 1 hour’s drive south of Nairobi.

PC(W) Salome Waithera Kinuthia was stationed at Mirangine Police Station (Nakuru area) and APC Nelson Kenyatta was assigned to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit at Karatina. Both areas are well north of Nairobi.

It is not known at which court they will be arraigned.

The two accused are the ninth and tenth police officers to be arrested in the past year, in seven different incidents, while transporting ivory.
