Abdi Noor Hussein and Dominic Mwasho have been charged in Kahawa court (Nairobi) with killing a black rhino in the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary (Tsavo West NP) and dealing in wildlife trophies to wit 3.3 kg of rhino horn.
Today’s Court Update 
 
#06. June 3rd, 2024  (Mention):  The court has set the matter over for another mention of July 1st, 2024.
It is alleged that the rhino was killed in the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary and the two accused were arrested with the rhino horn in Minjila.

Case Overview

Between December 10th and 17th, the two accused killed a black rhino using an unknown rifle with three 7.62mm bullets within the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary. On January 2nd, 2024 at Minjila, Garsen, the two accused were arrested while dealing in two rhino horn weighing 3.3 kg. The were arraigned in Kahawa court on January 12th, 2024.

#03. February 19th, 2024 (Mention):

There are now a total of five accused charged in relation to this matter. It has been adjourned for mention on March 4th. (SEEJ-AFRICA not in attendance.)

#02. January 26th, 2024 (Ruling): The two accused appeared virtually from Kiambu prison. Today, Hon. Kiage determined there wasn’t enough reason to keep the accused in custody and they were granted cash bail of 500,000 each, surety in similar amount, or bond of 1M each, surety in the same amount.
 
They pleaded for a lesser amount but the magistrate declined.  Both accused do not have legal representation and were pleading their cases themselves.  There will be a mention on the 19th of February, when it will be determined whether they’ve been served with all the necessary papers.

#01. January 12th, 2024 (Plea): The two accused pleaded not guilty to the charges before Princiapal Magistrate Gideon Kiage Oenga.  They have been remanded pending a bail report to be presented on January 26th.
