KWS with Mara Elephant Project Support Seize 65.5 kg Ivory in Two Arrests

KWS/MEP seize 51 kg and 14.5 kg

SEEJ-AFRICA:

  • October 24th, 2021, KWS with intel from the Mara Elephant Project (MEP) arrested two men with 51 kg comprised of seven pieces of ivory.
  • In November, KWS made another seizure in the Busia area based on MEP intelligence, arresting one accused with 14.5 kg of ivory.
  • This was the second Busia arrest in the past six months, the last being in May 7th when an Ugandan military officer was found with 30 kg of ivory.
