SEEJ-AFRICA: This story does not refer to a seizure weight.  SeeJ-AFRICA has approximated as KWS typically bases ivory seizure value at Ksh 100,000 per kilo.  The four seized tusk pieces depicted look to be in the area of 90 kg. The seizure location is south of Mount Kenya, approximately 130 kilometres northeast of Nairobi.
Police in Kirinyaga County are holding four men who were nabbed with four pieces of elephant tusks worth over Ksh.9 million.

The four were arrested on Friday morning at Gathuthuma village near Mt. Kenya forest in Kirinyaga Central constituency.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kirinyaga County Staffing Officer Gideon Mugambi said the suspects were trailed by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers who eventually arrested them.

Mr. Mugambi said the suspects are being held at Kerugoya Police Station and will be arraigned in court.
